Sihaya & Co. Website
Sihaya & Company is run by Christina Allen Page (we stan a woman owned business!), who began blending her own scents and selling hand-poured candles in 2014. I found out about Sihaya & Co from my new favorite subreddit, r/indiebeautyandmore, where a kind soul posted a review of Sihaya’s Tudor series candles. As someone whose love for Tudor history is so strong that I even went to see that trainwreck The Other Boleyn Girl movie in theaters, I actually gasped when I saw the images of my beloved six wives on candles. It’s genius- my gals are all such incredible, fascinating women (even Jane Seymour, I guess) that they would make very distinct scent profiles! I got candles of my two favorite wives, Anne Boleyn and Katherine Parr, although if I could go back in time, I would have gotten all of them. Unfortunately, the Tudor Collection was a limited edition release for Winter 2020 so I won’t be able to get my grasping hands on the rest of the wives or the other Tudor court scents. It’s not okay and I’m bitter about it.
Aesthetics
Sihaya & Company’s candles come in two sizes:
Tins: 8oz candle tin measures 3" wide by 2" deep, and holds approximately 7 oz of wax by weight.
Glass tumblers: candles measure 3" wide by 3.5" tall, and contain 9 oz of wax for a burn time of 40+ hours. They are topped with a candle-safe glittering overspray.
I purchased glass tumblers and I am pleased at the thickness of the glass as well as the burn time so far. I’ve been burning Katherine Parr for 3 hours or so every few days (it feels wrong typing that?) and I am just about to reach the halfway mark. I haven’t ordered Sihaya & Co’s candles before so I cannot attest to their aesthetic for their permanent collection candles, but the Tudor series candles are simply branded, with a circular label containing a painting of each wife and their name in a Tudor themed font. From browsing the Sihya & Co. website, the artworks on the other candle scents gives me a high fantasy vibe with highly color saturated imagery.
My main concern was that each candle contains glitter, since cleaning glitter from any surface is a curse, but the glitter melted down into the wax of the candle after the initial burning and didn’t break loose. I will probably keep the glass tumbler when I am finished with it because I constantly need more Tudor imagery in my life. Fingers crossed the glitter will be fairly easy to remove- I WANT to believe that I can overlook the small, sparkly flecks that can invade a home like locusts and never be removed.
It looks like Sihaya & Co. has a constantly updating menu of scents, which is perfect for the candle collector that likes variety and seasonal releases. I really appreciated Sihaya & Co. providing a complete scent list of their current candles on their website, since sometimes I am seeking a particular something-something. Once I burn through my Tudor gals, I am excited to browse the Sihaya menu for another amuse-bouche!
